In the fall of 1991, the Springdale Rotary Club launched a new fundraiser to help support the goals of the club. The event was a simple event, selling tickets for $100 each in hopes of winning a car. Then Rotarian’s, Willard and Pat Walker won. Deciding they had no need of a new car offered the gift back to the club asking them to use it toward a new scholarship for Springdale graduating students. The Willard Walker Scholarship was created in honor of his donation.
The Willard Walker Scholarship is housed at the Springdale Education Foundation. The Scholarship awards $2,000 to one Springdale High School and one Har-ber High School student each year. The scholarship is renewable up to four years. Students must attend a in state four year college.
“The scholarships I received from The Foundation have given me the chance to follow in my parent’s footsteps and attend the University of Arkansas while pursuing my own dream of obtaining a Master’s in Communication. The scholarships prove that hard work really will pay off in the end and they provide a sense of financial peace. I am so thankful for my scholarships from The Foundation for giving me the chance to live on campus and spend more time getting involved with different student organizations!” said Katelyn Krienen.
Application for the spring allocation will open on February 1, 2017. To apply www.spsef.org
